Salvador Balcorta
Salvador Balcorta is CEO of Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe in El Paso, Texas. Over the last decade, he was instrumental in transforming La Fe from a community health center into a comprehensive health and human services organization dedicated to nuestro bienestar (total wellness) and social justice - and one that has received national praise for its approach to promoting health and preventing disease. His career as a social activist and leader of the Chicano community began just before his 16th birthday, when he became head of the Mexican American Youth Association (MAYA), a large organization that brought together gang members and other youth to deal productively with violence and other challenges facing their impoverished communities.
Salvador Balcorta is currently a board member of the National Council of La Raza and an advisory board member of the JPMorgan Chase National Community Advisory Board. Over the years, he has served on numerous boards and advisory panels, including the Hispanic/Latino National Substance Abuse and AIDS Planning Committee, the Texas Governor's Advisory Committee on Immigration and Refugee Affairs, and the National Advisory Committee on Minority Health established by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
