  Gary D. Maynard

Gary Maynard is Secretary of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He is the former Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections and current President of the American Correctional Association. He has worked for more than 34 years in the field of corrections, beginning his career as a psychologist in the El Reno Federal Reformatory. Before assuming his position in Iowa, Gary Maynard held senior positions in the Oklahoma, Arkansas, and South Carolina corrections systems. He received the Courage and Valor Award from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and the Roy WIlkens Award from the NAACP.

For 32 years, Gary Maynard was a member of the Army National Guard, retiring as a Brigadier General. In the course of his service, he received the Legion of Merit from the United States Army and is a member of the Hall of Fame of the U.S. Army Artillery and Missile Officer Candidate School in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He has a Masters in Psychology from Oklahoma State University.
